One Voice in the Cosmic Fugue

The Early EarthThe early Earth
The meaning of fugue (fyoog) is a musical composition in which a short melody is successfully repeated by different voices or instruments. “Every one of us is, in the cosmic perspective, precious. If a human disagrees with you, let him live . In a hundred billion galaxies, you will not find another.”...Carl Sagan, Cosmos.

Animation of early earth and moonIs Earth a single voice of one lonely theme “Music of Life” in the Universe or is there (a cosmic fugue )– different voices playing the Music of Life in billions of planets circling the Suns in the numerous ‘Galaxies’. In another words is there an extraterrestrial life? What kind of life there is? Does they constitute of the same organic matter as we on earth are made of. All living things¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ on earth have common organic chemistry and common evolutionary heritage.

3. The early earth

The early earth
carbon atom plays the central role in all complex or simple or microscopic beings.¬¬¬¬ Billions of years ago our earth was lonely and barren. There was no life. How the carbon based elements made? How did they come together to form a single cell... then multicellular organisms formed and complex beings as we came into existence?

4. Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin
Probably all the organic beings which have ever lived on this Earth have descended from some one primordial form into which life was first breathed—There is a grandeur in this view of life that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed laws of gravity from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.....Charles Darwin...The Origin of Species 1859”

5. Structure of DNA

Structure of DNA
According to the Research carried by Scientists & paeleantalogists our Earth was formed some 4.5 billion years ago. The Hydrogen rich molecules of the primitive Earth were broken due to lightening and ultra violet radiations. They recombined into more complex molecules they were the earliest ancestors of “deoxyribose neuclic acid”DNA the master molecule of Life on Earth.

6. paramecium

paramecium
What is DNA? DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, is the hereditary material in humans and almost all other organisms It is located in the Nucleus. The information in DNA is stored as a code made up of four chemical bases: adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C), and thymine (T).

The order, or sequence, of these bases determines the information available for building and maintaining an organism, similar to the way in which letters of the alphabet appear in a certain order to form words and sentences. The DNA molecule resembles like a spiral strands called double helix.

The structure of the double helix is somewhat like a ladder, the rungs of this ladder is made of the four bases A(adenine)G(guanine)C(cytosine)T(Thymine) The sides of this ladder is made of sugar and phosphorus. Together a base sugar and phosphorus is termed nucleotide.

know from the fossil records that the origin of life happened soon after in ponds and oceans of the primitive Earth. The first organisms were unicellular (single cell) algae then by mutation they evolved to multi cellular .

10. unicellular organisms

unicellular organisms
Cambrian Explosion: Around 500 million years ago in the Cambrian era rocks the fossils of different animals were found at the floors of Cambrian oceans. It spoke about their existence. After the Cambrian Explosion new adaptations took place with speed. First fish and the first vertebrate appeared winged insects arose , amphibians creatures like lung fish who survived both on land and water .

11. single celled creatures

single celled creatures
The first trees and the first reptiles emerged. The dinosaurs evolved the first mammals appeared. The first flowers and birds appeared; the dinosaurs became extinct , the earliest cetaceans, ancestors to the dolphins and whales, arose and in the same period primates the ancestors of monkeys the apes and the humans arose.. (Carl Sagan)

Few million years ago the first true humans emerged. We have known and heard the voice of life on one small world only. Will we be able to hear the voice of life on other worlds? Although it may not be that easy but at least we have begun our search to listen for voices (extraterristial life) in cosmic fugue.

The Title of my blog One Voice in the Cosmic Fugue is taken from Carl Sagans book COSMOS.
